We have already installed SAP Business ONE, OpenOffice.org, and Adobe Reader on the Windows Server 2008.
Now we are about to install the Terminal Server, but during installation, it warns that the Terminal Server should be installed before any application that you want shared…. and it says that is possible that some applications would need to be reinstalled in order to have them available for the Terminal Server connections….
This is just another reason why I prefer a real Multi-User system… like Linux.
[only for jailbroken devices]
There is a new application called iPhoneVM that adds Virtual Memory (a swap file) to your jailbroken iphone.
I don’t know the origin or license of that application, but I have tested it on the 3G and… it works!
I’m running 10 applications right now and I still have 24Mb of free memory (I have backgrounder of course).
The file is rapidly being hosted in several places, try this google search for the deb file
Download the deb to your iphone and install it via command line either from MobileTerminal or via ssh session logged in as root with the command:
dpkg -i iPhoneVM.deb
PS: It’s also available in the beyouriphone repo.
UPDATE: I have experienced a lag, seems like swapping system takes some time…
Unless you have a bunch of files with macros, you don’t really need Microsoft Office (even if you have them you can port them), so:
- Go to Add/Remove Software in your Control Panel and Remove Microsoft Office.
- Go to http://www.openoffice.org download and install it (this will provide Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access replacements, including support for Formulas and Drawings)
- Go to http://www.mozillamessaging.com download thunderbird and install it (this will provide an OutLook replacement)
- Got to https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/ and get the Lightnin Add-on, in order to incorporate calendaring functions.
Welcome to the Free World.
Today I needed to restart the GNOME panel, this is all what it takes:
Open the run application box (Alt+F2) or a console and type:
killall gnome-panel
That’s it.
We are connecting 6 branches, setting up a VPN, the company that sold the hardware, gave us the appliances already configured.
But once we begin to install the appliances had some troubles, specially with the firewall functions and we were hitting against the wall
We ask for some advise, and things are very clear now.
TELMEX made some modifications to it’s Thompson modems that doesn’t allow them to work properly with dynamic DNS services…
Recent situations like the hijack of an airplane in Mexico city and the killed people in the Balderas subway station and remembering tragedies like the past on New York, Madrid and London, as well as many historic episodes like crusades, witch hunt, inquisition, many wars, etc… remind me a phrase I first heard in the the documentary The root of all evil? (the foundation of The God Delusion):
Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you’d have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.
Steven Weinberg, Nobel Laureate
Last week a person was delivering printed propaganda and painting a wall in the Balderas subway station in Mexico City. When the policemen tried to stop him on the paintings, he got a gun and shoot two people dead and another ones got injured.
The guy was giving a message about environmental and religious issues, investigations have proven that he was a constant reader of …Guess what… The Bible.

Before and After
When you try to look for an application installed from the Apple Store, you will notice that they are located in /User/Applications/AND-THEN-A-VERY-LONG-NAME-THAT-MEANS-NOTHING-TO-YOU well there is little app from avialable from cydia that can create human redable shortcuts for those folders, the links are created in /User/AppLinks
This can be helpful, for example to get the names of the apps in order to create your custom icons for iElegance.
This useful app i’s called AppLinks.
ModMyi has a service to Search and Browse the cydia repositories.
Its located in this link

Before and After
iElegance is my favorite iPhone theme, it already includes icons for many apps, but not for all, and specially not for local ones (like country specific newspaper).
Therefore I have created an Inkscape template to create my owns.
The template can be downloaded from this file: iElegance-icon-template.svg
And this are the instructions:
- Access your iPhone via ssh (I’m assuming you already know how to do that)
- Find your desired icon (or get your own image from wherever you want)
- If the file is not readable by Inkscape use the icon normalizer as described here
- Open the template file with Inkscape
- Import the icon into Inkscape.
- Make a copy of the icon and rotate it 180°
- Use the green rectangles to crop the icons by placing the rectangles in top of them, selecting the two desired objects, and then from the menu: Object>Clip>Apply
- Give transparency to the reflection one.
- Move the new clipped icons to the corresponding places.
- Export Bitmap Page Layout and give it the same name than the app has but with the .png extension instead of .app.
- Copy the new created icon to the folder /Library/Themes/iElegance.theme/Icons (or PRO.theme if you have the PRO version) inside your iPhone
- Respring in order to view the new icons.
