How to stop OpenOffice trying to recover a file that no longer exists

October 6th, 2009 No comments

Today I shared my lap-top during a conference, to performa a presentation of a Power Point file that was on a an USB, something happened maybe the usb was pulled out improperly and now everytime I open OpenOffice it tries to recover the file, but since it does not exists, it just keep trying for the next time.

So, if you ever have this problem, just remove (or rename) this file:
~/.openoffice.org/3/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Recovery.xcu

Duty and Tax Free Shops are just a scam

October 3rd, 2009 No comments

I have always thought that those Duty and Tax Free are not a good choice to buy any stuff. ..Well Today I have proven my self that they are very expensive:

In the morning I bought a bottle of Tequila Don Julio Añejo in a High-End  Supermarket in Mexico, which I’m taking to a friend during this trip. I paid a total of $32.50USD, which includes $2.50USD of Value Added Tax and $10.00USD of Special Liquor Tax.

So the Tequila without taxes was just $20.00USD.

Well, I’m in the airport right now, the same bottle is priced $49.00USD !

OK, they charge no Tax and Duty but they just double the price.

Windows Server as Mission Critical Server

Windows Server need restarting... again

Windows Server needs restarting... again!

I finally installed the Terminal Server inside the Windows 2008 Server, and once again I had to restart the server because it needs it….
That server has been restarted when the SQL Server and SAP were installed, now because of this…etc.

So I wonder: How Can Windows Server be a Mission Critical Server, I you have to restart it everytime you install anything???

Update: Today we added the server to the current windows domain, and guess what, restart again!

How many users can connect to a windows share

October 1st, 2009 No comments

Now that I had to read about the licenses for the Windows Server and the Terminal Sever, I understood many of the network problems we have faced with windows shares and printers in Windows XP PCs:

-Windows XP Home: Allows only 5 users to connect.
-Windows XP Professional: Allows only 10 users to connect.

Of course there are no technical reasons for that, is just a matter of marketing in order to force users to buy more expensive Windows Versions.

So, my recommendation, If you need to have a Windows share, Use Linux, Make a SAMBA partition for your windows users, and you have no users quantity limits, only hardware limitations, of course.

Terminal Server Licensing

October 1st, 2009 No comments

OK, now we have a problem, as a trap, Microsoft User Licenses are a completely different story that Terminal Server Licenses, so it’ does not matter that we have paid a lot of money for Windows Server Licenses for our users, now we have to pay a lot more money to give remote access to those users via Terminal Server…
And yes, we also had to paid for Microsoft SQL licenses!

The more I know Windows, the more I hate it.

inVisibleSHIELD-Apple iPhone 3G

inVisibleSHIELD-Apple iPhone 3G

I have tried several cases for my iPhone 3G, and I never felt satisfied, they were big, and make the device look ugly….

But now I found inVisibleSHIELD, this is really worthy, It provides protection against scratches all over the phone and the device is still looking as it was designed to be.

My device was already all scratched, and the apple mirror was dull. Well since this new layer was added, it shines again, really!

You can buy it on-line here:
