If you like Whatsapp you will love Viber

January 4th, 2011 1 comment

As you may know Whatsapp is a messenger that can help you reduce your SMS bills by using wifi in a very easy way.

If you like Whatsapp, you will love Viber, it’s the exact same concept but for phone calls.

You don’t have to add contact nicks, since everything is automatically taken from the default iPhone addressbook, if any of your contacts install Viber it will automatically show up on your contacts list.

It’s like skype, but much more easy.

The Android and Blackberry versions are on the way.

How to turn on an iPhone with a broken Power Button

December 5th, 2010 No comments

If your iPhone Power Button is broken, and it’s turned off, it will turn on when the battery starts to charge by connecting it to the PC or Power cord. But if for some reason id doesn’t there seems to be no way tu turn it on…. But it certainy there is a way!

This worked for me, an I have read about some other guys succeding:

Press the Glass in an area below the power button with one finger and other in the back while pushing the powere button. Good Luck!

Downgrade iPhone with iOS4 to iOS3

October 23rd, 2010 No comments

iPhone 3G with an iOS4 is just toooooo slooooow, almost unsusable, so I had to downgrade to iOS3.

There is no official Apple support to do it, but I did it following this blog:

http://www.redmondpie.com/downgrade-ios-4-iphone-3gs-3g-and-ipod-touch-to-iphone-3.1.3-3.1.2-how-to-guide/

I did that from a WinXP running inside a Virtualbox inside Ubuntu Maverick.

Justa correction to that post, In order to make iTune let you choose the firmwire file you have to hold SHIFT+ALT while clicking on RESTORE.

While jailbreaking, If blackra1n gets an error asking for ASL.dll, try this:

Moving to the clouds

October 11th, 2010 No comments

The rules have changed, now is completly posible to move from the desktop to the cloud, let’s do the leap:

A desktop or even a laptop is not competly needed for the daily average use today, let’s inspectmy daily activities:

-Emailing can be done from any of the excelent webmail services that exist today, I have been using Gmail for the last 4 months. It’s fun to see how the world is upsode down, I rememeber some years ago when we were trying to use webmail service like hotmail from the desktop email client like Outlook in Windows… Now I do the opposite, I fetch my messages from my domains to Gmail, and manage everything from the web.

-Productivity Suites: Lots of people uses Microsoft Office, many have moved to OpenOffice.org (LibreOffice), and some other use many other options, Now this huge applications are NO LONGER NEEDED, Most of the daily work can be done in the excelent Web Applications like http://www.zoho.com or of course Google Docs (http://docs.google.com).

-Photo Management can be hosted on free services like FLICKR or http://picasaweb.google.com

-Many Diffrent files can be hosted on free services like Dropbox or UbuntuOne.

There will be of course several caveats -that I’ll be bloggin here-, but the benefits are huge:

-I can relay on inexpensive -very light- hardware, In fact one of the resons for this movement is to prepera myself for the adoption of a tablet next year, now it does not matter wich one, because anyone will be compatible with what I need (maybe even the iPad).

Let’s move on.
